Village
of Oak Creek a quaint town
Area is still growing; many services available
Just between I-17 and Sedona on Hwy. 179 sits the Village of Oak Creek.
This quaint community is in Yavapai County territory and governed by the Big
Park Regional Coordinating Council and the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors.
In recent years, the Village of Oak Creek, and its surrounding area, also
known as Big Park, has seen increased growth.
The Village of Oak Creek now has many different local services for its
residents.
Homesteading in the Big Park area began in the 1920s, near the end of Jacks
Canyon. By the mid-1930s, there were a handful of original homesteaders in Big
Park. During the 1960s, the Big Park homesteads were bought an subdivided.
From that point, Big Park has seen consistent growth in populations and
services. In the 1980 elections, approximately 500 Big Park voters participated.
Since 1980, Big Park has had increasing residential and commercial development.
By the U.S. Census in 2000, Big Park's population had grown to 5,245.
Today, the Village has two 18-hold golf courses, plenty of shopping,
including an outlet mall, numerous restaurants, lodging and local services such
as a grocery store and business offices.
